I’m mildly obsessed with Middle Eastern cuisine, and seek it out on a regular basis. Some of my favorite spots for this flavorful fare include Saffron Grill in Folsom, Kolbeh Kabob in Orangevale, and Maalouf’s Taste of Lebanon and Famous Kabob—both located in Sacramento. But recently I re-visited Pita Kitchen Plus on Arden Way, and was once again captivated by the warm friendliness of the staff and the restaurant’s delicious food. We worked our way through the kitchen’s appetizer “combo special” which features a creamy, sesame-kissed hummus, a smoky, textural baba ghanouge, a mound of brightly flavored, palate-reviving tabouleh, and some of the crustiest, most flavorful falafels I have relished in a long time. I also sampled the restaurant’s lamb kabob, whose delectable meat was surprisingly tender; and enjoyed the warm basket of pita bread, which I used to scoop everything up. If you’ve got a hankering for a plateful of nurturing, savory Middle Eastern food, consider stopping into this congenial family-owned restaurant.
