I always love discovering a good neighborhood breakfast spot—one where the food is solid and nourishing, the staff is warm and efficient, and the menu offers an interesting variety of items. I found such a spot in Carmichael recently called Lido Café & Bakery. Located in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it section of Fair Oaks Boulevard, Lido is a special favorite of local dog owners because of its canine-friendly policy. Furry, leashed companions are welcome on the outdoor patio area, where they can make new friends and snooze as their hungry humans chow down on Lido’s plump, pretty omelets, strawberry French toast and chicken-fried steak. I devoured a simple and inexpensive 1x1x1 breakfast (only $5.95!) which included one the café’s famous and fluffy sweet potato pancakes (they also offer buttermilk, blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes), an egg and a single piece of bacon. Lido also cranks out a yummy, rib-sticking (and very generously-portioned) corned beef hash. Breakfast is served daily until 3 p.m.
