A unique event for food lovers and history buffs occurs the evening of Saturday, Sept. 21 at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park. In conjunction with the city-wide “Farm-to-Fork” festivities, “Feast at the Fort” features a sit-down, family-style, four-course dinner prepared by chefs from restaurants such as Hock Farm Craft & Provisions, Hook & Ladder Manufacturing Co. and Mulvaney’s B&L.
The chefs will prepare “newly-created and history-inspired” dishes using locally-sourced products in Sutter’s period facilities, including the outdoor fire pits, historic kitchen and on-site bakery. Guests are free to wander the grounds and interact with chefs as they prepare the meal.
The theme of the evening is “cooking with chocolate,” inspired by John Sutter’s affection for imported Mexican chocolate. Guests will enjoy an array of dishes incorporating chocolate during the evening, as well as tastings of locally crafted wine, beer and cider.
This is the fourth year for this signature event held at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park, and this year KFBK News Anchor Kitty O’Neal will act as celebrity emcee. Live acoustic music will entertain guests throughout the event, which will also include a silent auction. At the close of the evening, each participant will receive a complimentary goodie bag that includes an event program and special keepsake items.
“Feast at the Fort” is a fundraising event for Friends of Sutter’s Fort, a 501 (C) (3) cooperating association that supports Sutter’s Fort SHP and is operated by California State Parks. The mission of Friends of Sutter’s Fort is to the support the interpretive and educational programs at Sutter’s Fort SHP.
