Jessie Beck of Reno became the first woman to own a major gambling business in Nevada. She and Richard “Dick” Perry became friends, when Dick took a job at the casino during his college years. In 1965, Dick was sent to Vietnam as a pilot in the Navy’s fierce-fighting Ghost Riders, and their partner squadron, the Saints. Jessie sent him a care package. Then she sent more. She sent dozens and hundreds more. In fact, throughout the war, Jessie Beck sent thousands of packages to troops across all branches of the US military. This immensely generous “Gamblin’ Grandma” became legendary and the Navy honored her with a legacy in the sky. This true story of friendship and fate is Lady Jessie.
