Show up to Capital Christian Center on a Sunday morning for the 8 or 9:30 service, and you can listen to the heavenly sound of the Capital Choir. And if you aren’t the service-going type, you can attend a Wednesday evening choir rehearsal in the church sanctuary. You’ll hear 80 to 100 performers, some professionals, some with limited vocal training. All are church members or are on the membership path. “We don’t audition, but we do a vocal testing,” says Rob Sapp, music and creative arts pastor, noting that it’s rare for a singer to be turned away. Then how is it that such a mix of voices could be voted tops? That’s where overt spirituality comes in. “There’s an energy, a level of faith, an excitement, a heartfelt passion,” says Sapp.
