Sure, you can order books through Amazon.com, but then you don’t get the thrill of wandering around shelves stacked with books, checking out new releases and stumbling upon something unexpected and wonderful. Borders—a national chain with six locations in the Sacramento region—is the modern version of Ye Olde Book Shoppe, filled with treasures for anyone who loves to read. The store is well-stocked and well-organized, with a great kids’ section and a marvelous selection of magazines. You can stay all day, stretched out in a comfy upholstered chair as you pore through books or thumb through magazines. (Nobody seems to mind if you read without buying.) And if you need a pick-me-up, you can hit the in-store cafe for a bracing jolt of java.
