Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong has been to City Bicycle Works in midtown. So have Greg Lemond, Levi Leipheimer, Chris Horner and George Hincapie. These world-class cyclists know a great bike shop when they see one. But you don’t have to wear a yellow jersey to shop here; the store carries one of the biggest selections of cruisers in the region, along with mountain bikes, hybrids, road bikes, children’s bikes and bike accessories, clothing and shoes. (It also offers repairs and maintenance.) Known for its friendly, attentive sales staff, City Bicycle Works also is a gathering spot for local cyclists: On Saturday mornings, a group of amateur racers meets in the alley behind the midtown store for a 40-mile training ride. FYI, the Greenback store holds a free maintenance clinic the third Thursday of the month from 7 to 9 p.m., and the K Street store teaches a maintenance class through Learning Exchange.
