Alternative Rock Radio Station

106.5 FM KWOD; www.kwod.net
With the tagline “Everything Alternative,” KWOD casts a wide net when it comes to compiling its alternative music playlist. And playing everything from Alkaline Trio to Weezer, it delivers. The station’s weekday lineup begins with “The Adam Carolla Morning Show” (5 to 10 a.m.). Andy Sims takes the reins from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by Rubin from 4 to 8 p.m., who plays music (including listener requests via KWOD on Demand) and reports any traffic snarls that may hinder the drive home. The station introduces listeners to lesser-known music and artists via indie music guru (and evening jock) Derek Moore’s Indieblogheaven (heard weekdays around noon and from 7 to 8 p.m. on Sundays) and gives punk fans their due with jock Andy Hawk’s Punk Rock Academy (heard Fridays from noon to 1 p.m.). Fans who miss the days when Depeche Mode was considered alternative can check out Retro Revival on Sunday mornings. Wonder what your favorite alternative song would sound like in a dance club? Check out X Beats every Saturday night at 10 p.m. Finally, lest you think the station doesn’t support local music, check out its Sounds of Sac page on kwod.net and hear what Hawk, also the station’s music director, considers the crème de la crème of the local music scene.
