File this photo under the letter “P,” for “Perseverance.” After a fire on Dec. 8, 1973, that destroyed the Grant Union High School gym and part of the auditorium, the student body decided to proceed with the school’s annual Christmas show. As part of the program, Grant’s Swing Choir performed four songs, including “I Believe in Miracles,” on the stage above the scorched orchestra pit.

You can learn more about the fire, restoration and other subjects having to do with the North Sacramento institution at the Grant Union High School Alumni Association Museum, located on campus and open to the public on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. See the website guhsaa.org.
