Knee-Hi, the Safety Dog cared deeply about children’s well-being. That’s why he visited schools to promote safe practices during such activities as crossing busy streets, riding bikes, climbing trees and working in the kitchen. A sponsorship by The Sacramento Bee and KFBK Radio allowed Knee-Hi and his “teacher,” Dr. George E. Brunson, to visit nearly 150 schools in the Sacramento region during a four-month period in 1960.
