Picture-Perfect Independence Day

Although Fourth of July isn’t a “dress up” holiday for most of us, that wasn’t the case for these young people in 1912, when this image was captured. They commemorated the holiday with this photo, taken along the bank of the Sacramento River. The Center for Sacramento History identifies them, from front to back, as George Bovey, Myrtle Hausman, Margaret Buell and Wesley Thomas (with fishing pole). The name of the man in the background is lost to history.
