Three new locations are opening up in 2021 for Northern California’s largest axe-throwing experience, The Smart Axe. With locations currently established in Folsom and Sacramento, there will soon be ones in Davis, Roseville and Modesto. The Davis location is due to open by May 1; Roseville by mid-July.
Axe throwing is much like darts but with a heavier, handled tool, and it makes for a great date night, friend gathering, birthday celebration or competition. Socially distanced targets are available by walk-in or reservation. Single throwing sessions at both locations allow up to four people per target. The Rancho Cordova location’s single session lasts 75 minutes and costs $25. The Folsom location’s session lasts 60 minutes and is also $25.
Anyone 12 and older is welcome to participate, although persons from age 12 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult. Mandatory: closed-toe shoes. (Let’s not think too hard about that.) The menu includes bar snacks and finger foods (burgers, hot dogs, sausages, skewers, popcorn, pretzels and the like) and beer and wine.
The current locations are open seven days a week. Monday–Thursday, 3 p.m. till last reservation at 9:30; on Fridays, they open at 2:30 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, they open at 11.
