Although the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op has been operating for over 46 years, and in its new location at the Corner of R and 29th since 2016, many Sacramento residents aren’t familiar with the Co-op. Both new and long-term residents of Sacramento tend to ask some of the same questions about the Co-op.
Do I have to be a member to shop at the food co-op?
Everyone is welcome to shop at the Co-op! Just do your shopping like you would anywhere else. Once you’ve discovered the benefits of Co-op shopping, you might want to find out more about the benefits of membership, too.
Do I have to pay an annual fee to be a member of the co-op?
To become a member of our Co-op, pay as little as $25 towards the FULLY REFUNDABLE $300 FAIR SHARE investment plus a $5 processing fee (nonrefundable). If you wish to pay the $300 all at once, you will receive a $30 Co-op gift card. If you wish to make investment payments, you’ll pay $25 every six months until you reach the $300 FAIR SHARE investment. If for any reason you decide to leave the co-op, your investment will be returned to you.
Is there any reason to become a member if I can shop at the co-op for free?
While Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op welcomes everyone to shop, there are definite benefits to becoming a member.
For instance, members can vote in co-op issues, so they get a say in how the co-op works and have a voice in our future! And speaking of money, members receive special discounts, and when the co-op turns a profit, members may be eligible for a patronage refund in proportion to their purchases. There’s host of other member benefits – just talk to the staff to find out more.
So if you’re shopping at the Co-op, the benefits are likely to exceed your investment, and you’ll get to play a part in a vibrant community resource.
