A newly established non-profit has found its way to the heart of East Sacramento.
Haven is a sanctuary to encourage and foster safe, life-changing experiences with pregnancy and birth for women, especially Black, Indigenous and people of color. The organization’s mission is to help reduce morbidity and mortality rates associated with childbearing throughout the greater Sacramento area.
Co-founders Heidi Jones and Liz Kennish have gathered a diverse group of six doulas who are all working toward being DONA certified—the world’s first, largest and leading doula certifying organization. A consultation is the first step after signing up. Here they will work to see which doula team best matches each client.
Services include massage therapy, nutritional expertise, childbirth and parenting education, doula care, and yoga and fitness classes—all for little to no cost.
Haven also supports local, women-run businesses by selling their handmade products in the boutique at the front of the store. Items sold include but are not limited to: Allspicery sitz bath salts, Urban Sage belly balm and FIBER + FLOWER earrings. All products sold help fund Haven.
Ways to help:
- A pop-up event is taking place this week. Haven has partnered with a new, local business, The Pie Witch. Pre-order a delicious pie by Wednesday, Oct. 7 and proceeds will go toward new supplies for mothers and babies. Order here and include a comment indicating Haven.
- Donations are tax deductible and always appreciated. Haven has established an Amazon Wish List where products donated will go directly to families in need. Other donations accepted include donations through PayPal, maternity and infant clothing, diapers, wipes and feminine products.
