Second Saturday is not the only time you can enjoy photographs, paintings and sculptures by local artists. Midtown’s Center for Contemporary Art offers one alternative to the crowds of Second Saturday. They have a great installation up now through Feb. 14. The installation is called “Improbable Mends” and showcases works by artist Darrin Martin. He describes this collection as “a solo exhibition of new installation, sculpture and print works.” Martin’s artwork centers on “the rupture or breakdown of materials, images and objects followed by their unlikely and transformative reconstitution.” An intriguing show, to say the least.

The Center for Contemporary Art is open from noon to 5 p.m. every Thursday through Sunday. At 7 p.m. on Thursday Feb. 4, Martin is giving a lecture that is free to Center members, and $5 to the general public. If you haven't already seen it, this is one exhibit worth catching.
