Food-Foraging Author to Visit Sacramento’s Grange Restaurant & Bar
On the evening of Wednesday, November 4th, the region’s foodies will have an opportunity to meet modern-day food forager Langdon Cook, author of the new book Fat of the Land: Adventures of a 21st Century Forager. To learn more about Cook’s fascinating approach to food sourcing, check out his entertaining blog at http://fat-of-the-land.blogspot.com. In celebration of its one-year anniversary, Grange Restaurant & Bar will host Cook, who will sign books and discuss his (sometimes hair-raising) foraging adventures.
The “intrepid” Cook, notes Bon Appetit magazine, “makes it his mission to root out and harvest all manner of edibles, from razor clams to weeds.” Cook’s untraditional food-sourcing techniques, he explains in Bon Appetit, provide him with “satisfaction in having a hand on the levers of the food supply." Activities such as growing your own food, foraging, and hunting are "good for the soul," says. "In a modern world that's increasingly disconnected from nature, foraging is a path back to some old knowledge.”
A three-course prix-fixe menu, inspired by Fat of the Land and prepared by executive chef Michael Tuohy, will also be available during the evening.
