Second Temple Coffee Location Opened Today
I dropped by the brand-new Temple coffee house at 2829 S St. at 8 this morning. The place had been open just two hours and was already buzzing with people. I counted 20 when I walked in, and more were arriving when I left. Clearly, this section of midtown (near Oak Park) is underserved when it comes to good coffee.
The cafe is in a handsome 100-year-old building with exposed brick walls, ductwork and large windows. Owner Sean Kohmescher said he was looking for a distinctive space that was different from the original Temple, located at 1014 10th St. in the old Levinson’s Books building.
The new location will enable Kohmescher to move his roasting operation from Santa Clara. He’ll also hold coffee and tea cupping classes here.
It will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through the month of August; starting in September, it will stay open until 11 p.m.
