editorial profile:
The patio at Zinfandel Grille in Folsom is a sweet haven for diners who enjoy eating under the stars. There is plenty of foliage and pretty flowers, and ceiling fans whip breezily above you. Take a gander through the wine list and its selection of, well, Zinfandel, of course. The neighborhood restaurant—parallel to historic Folsom and across from Lake Natama Inn, was once a part of the Paragary restaurant group. It was divvied up and sold to independent owners, but the change did not sway the original concept of the casual eatery that trumpeted a menu of full flavors and seasonal flavorings. It offers a baked brie appetizer with candied walnuts, prosciutto, seasonal fruit and a baguette, a roasted beet salad with hydroponic watercress and wood-fired pizzas that come with fresh veggies or Italian sausage. For dinner, the pan-roasted chicken in a mustard crust continues to be popular, but the New Zealand rack of lamb served with an apricot mint relish is not one to overlook. Cindy Arora

" It is unfortunate that the legacy of Randy Paragary has been left to the current chef. The food is adequate, but not in correlation to the price. The ambiance is nice and I would go back for cocktails, but not for dinner. There are too many restaurants that have raised the bar for Folsom eating "

" Our friends and my family had recently visited the Zinfandel Grille in Folsom on January 19th. We were really disappointed at the restaurant waiter‘s service and menu price. There was a party of 7 including a child and our dinner reservation was at 6:30PM. Our waiter was an Asian man. He acknowledged us when we first sat down at the table but he did not return to us once during our entire 1.5 hours dinner time at the restaurant. The waiter also told us that we could not split our bills on our order; we then realized that there was an 18% tip gratitude guarantee adds to the bill when the party was 5 or more. After he took our orders, he spent most of his time going back and forth between other small tables around ours. I ordered “Fettuccine & Prawns” and asked if I could substitute the red onions and bell peppers with broccoli and mushrooms because my son was going to share the pasta with me. He quickly brushed me off with an agreement. Our friends ordered drinks and a Caesar salad. The Caesar salad cost $7.00 and it contained few uncut lettuces with a little bit of seasoning. The salad was not tossed either. We joked about the portion size and 4 slice of lettuces. You really had to work for your salad and cut the lettuces on you own as you ate. Everyone’s food finally arrived after 40 minutes and I was very disappointed at my Fettuccine. I only got few little tiny slices of broccoli stems, not a whole broccoli. My husband’s “Buccatini & Meatballs” did not come with any bread and the portion size was for a child.
The waiter did not return back to our table after he delivered the food. When we got the bill we were really surprised at the dollar amount on the bill (over $165). After our entertainment card discount of $15.00, the bill was still over $145. The guarantee tip to this waiter was almost $24. What a joke! Our waiter did almost nothing to earn his tips; his lack of service still earned him an 18% tip. He should get nothing if you asked us. He spent all of this attention on other tables because he actually has to earn his tips based on the service. His service skill was worst than Dennys or I Hop. We have since talked about our dinning experience to other friends and they all agreed that we would get a lot more from other chain restaurants and we would have better food with much better services too. It was our first time at this restaurant and it sure will be our last time too.
Please be aware of your decision if you choose this Zinfandel Grille. You will be charged outrageously for your soft drinks and salads too.
I hope that this review will help you with your restaurant selections. High price and nice setting restaurant does not mean you will get better food and services at all.
