editorial profile:

If you’re searching for a captivating view in downtown Sacramento, look no further than the Tower Bridge Bistro, tucked quietly away in the Embassy Suites hotel on Capitol Mall. Wide windows invite diners to gaze out onto a splendid view of the mustard-gold Tower Bridge and Sacramento River, while joggers and bikers whiz by on the paved path alongside the restaurant’s pretty outdoor patio area—a wonderful spot to dine on warm, balmy days. The bistro is a peaceful haven from the hustle and bustle of the hotel’s lobby, featuring warm yellow walls adorned with stunning paintings of vineyards, lots of fresh plants and whimsical pear-shaped lamps dangling over comfortable booths. Floors are composed of rustic tile, and diaphanous, polka-dotted cream-colored drapes frame the large windows. The menu is delightfully varied, and there’s sure to be something appealing for everyone in your party. Lunch focuses on salads (try the wilted spinach salad, tossed with creamy goat cheese, orange slices, dried cranberries and candied pine nuts), soups and sandwiches, including a fabulous prime rib sandwich—make sure to order the ridiculously garlicky fries with this rib-sticking menu item. Dinner goodies range from a cheese-stuffed Black Mission fig appetizer and a smoked chicken pappardelle pasta to filet mignon and a pepper-crusted seared ahi. However, the menu changes seasonally, so it’s always a good idea to check the Bistro’s website (www.towerbridgebistro.com) for updated information. Tower Bridge Bistro also offers a lavish champagne buffet brunch on Sundays. - Kira O'Donnell

Insider tip: Your inner child will appreciate Tower Bridge’s “Not So Classic” root beer float and caramelized banana split.
