editorial profile:
The Cellar Cafe is well-known sandwich spot amongst Rancho Cordova insiders who know all about the gourmet sandwiches and iced mochas they can get on the cheap. The cafe in the historic Nimbus Winery building on Folsom Boulevard doesn’t have expensive décor or hostesses that escort you to a table. What it does have is counter-style service, gourmet sandwiches that are made with sour honey wheat walnut and popular honey curry bread that works well with the tuna fish. You’ll find cold sandwiches, an expanding hot menu with turkey burgers, veggie burgers, quesadillas and burritos. Manager Jamie Kim boasts about the salad selection and made-from-scratch dressings, such as raspberry vinaigrette and herb green dressing (mint, basil, cilantro). Cellar Cafe also serves blended coffee drinks, fruit smoothies and sweets that will help when the late afternoon energy slump hits. Cindy Arora
Insider tip: The cafe’s bestselling item is its Oriental chicken salad made with soft udon noodles and herb green dressing.
