Tap into your inner cowboy at Susie’s Country Oaks Cafe, located smack-dab in the center of Granite Bay. This cute little establishment, with its faux wood-paneled walls, ruffly, plaid curtains and homey knick knacks (old pitchers, tea pots and plates) displayed on high shelves exudes a down-home, Western vibe. The food is filling and no-frills, providing ample calories for your busy day. Breakfast time is especially popular, and menu items range from a great selection of omelets (really hungry? Order the “Kitchen Sink,” stuffed with bacon, ham, sausage, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers and cheese); frittatas and griddled items such as the briskly-selling buttermilk pancakes and “Texas Toast.” Breakfast specialties include the yummy eggs Florentine—a toasted English muffin topped with fresh sautéed spinach, poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce—and a Mexican-inspired “Railyard” burrito, big enough to power you up for a strenuous afternoon in the garden. If you decide to visit for lunch, you’ll enjoy the lineup of hearty sandwiches (don’t miss the Philly chicken sandwich with sautéed onions, bell peppers and tomatoes) and burgers. Kids have a great menu from which to choose—the “Mutton-Buster” includes “little corn doggies” and fries, the “Marshal” is a half cheese quesadilla with beans.
