Sushi is no longer the epicurean enigma it was when it first arrived in the United States. These days, a sushi bar on every neighborhood corner generates a challenge in deciding where to go. Sky Sushi is a trendy and bright spot for El Dorado Hills and its raw fish scene. Located in the upscale shopping center on Park Drive, Sky Sushi is bold and edgy with traditional bright red walls that symbolize prosperity. A row of full-size bamboo punctuates the middle of the dining room, which holds a handful of tables and booths. The sushi bar is—as usual—the best place to take a seat and get personalized advice from a sushi chef. The menu is massive. Appetizers include the heart attack (lightly fried jalapeños, stuffed with cream cheese and spicy tuna) and crispy soft shell crab. Sky Sushi also has daily nigiri specials, rice and noodle bowls, salads, sashimi and specialty rolls such as the kamikaze (crab meat, shrimp tempura, avocado, salmon and tuna) or the sashimi-style screaming orgasm (creamy ponzu sauce, seared albacore and scallions). Don’t be alarmed when the sushi chef asks you “Who’s your daddy?”—that’s just the name of Sky’s most popular roll. Promise. Cindy Arora
