" When Sammy's morphed from "SammySausage" to "SammySausage & Burgers" not long after opening, great hoopla was made over the addition of hamburgers and milkshakes to the menu. Unfortunately, neither new item was terribly good -- the burgers were lackluster, and the shakes were both thin and lacking a true chocolate flavor. We wish Sammy's had worked on perfecting the sausages instead of spreading itself thin by trying to offer everything for everybody. "

" The "Bite-Size Profile" seems a bit out of date. When this restaurant first opened under the name "SammySausage," it was probably accurate to characterize it as "one place where beer and bratwurst [are] honored." Since then, however, the restaurant has de-emphasized its sausages through a series of name changes -- first, "SammySausage & Burgers" and, more recently, "Sammy's Great American Food." This is a shame, because there is really no treat like a GRILLED bratwurst, kielbasa, or hot link complete with proper skin and soft French roll. Steamed and boiled "hot dogs" are a very poor substitute for the real thing. In any event, we have found the service at "Sammy's Whatever" to be variable -- fine one evening and miserable the next, sometimes depending on the counter person's ability to understand English. And frankly, the grilled sausages are MUCH better prepared at The Dog Out, which opened recently on Manzanita Avenue in Carmichael, not far from Fair Oaks Boulevard. (And no, we do NOT own or work for The Dog Out!) The Dog Out is a bit of a drive from Granite Bay or Roseville, but the trip is worth every mile. Forget Sammy's, which presents the appearance of a business enterprise still drifting in confused search of its own identity.

" Nice place but poor service and I definitlly wouldn't say inexpensive! I spent almost $30 on a casual lunch. I would suggest going across the way to Pizza Antica or just heading down the street to Parkers. No solid atmosphere and no kids menu was unfortunate for my wife and i. "
