This Old Sacramento restaurant’s notoriety is a combination of killer view and fantastic food. The well-established River City Cafe is continually applauded as the place to take friends from outoftown, hold birthday parties and— if you can muscle your way in—the place to reserve a seat for an outdoor dinner on Fourth of July. Its large and spacious outdoor patio—bigger than the inside of the restaurant—overlooks the Sacramento River and Tower Bridge The décor in the main dining room is relaxing and comfortable with light coloring meshed with splashes of bright red and unfinished wood accenting its pretty charm. The menu is seasonally driven and offers summer dishes such as ahi tuna nachos, grilled salmon with cilantro rice and coconut brown butter, or an arugula salad with watermelon and feta cheese. Its dinner menu offers filling fares such as grilled steak with gorgonzola walnut butter, pork loin chops with crispy polenta or mahi mahi with a peach salsa. Cindy Arora
