editorial profile:
It says a lot about sushi and its acceptance in mainstream society when the word “sports bar” appears next to it on a restaurant marquee. Oshima Sushi—catering to the Arco Arena sports crowd—has created an environment of bento boxes, sake cocktails and flat screen televisions. Specialty rolls come with names, such as New Player (cream cheese, shrimp tempura, salmon) and the Kings (snow crab, shrimp tempura, soft shell crab). If stopping by for a quick stint of cocktails and appetizers, order the croquettes (Japanese– style fried potatoes), fried ebi (shrimp) or the Hawaiian Poki (light salad with tuna, salmon and hamachi tossed in vinaigrette). Rolls are broken down into user-friendly symbols that designate non-raw, spicy and super spicy. Try the Sidekick, a spicy salmon roll stuffed with fresh Serrano chilies and albacore tuna, or the 1994 roll, which is stuffed with sesame chicken, unagi and soft shell crab. Cindy Arora
