editorial profile:
At Ma Jong’s there are communal dining tables that seat couples alongside tourists and businessmen share their soy sauce with local hipsters. It’s an endearing trait for this trendy Chinese restaurant—across the way from the Capitol—that is also part of The Park. The counter-style restaurant offers flavors from China, Vietnam, Thailand and Korea and its menu carries classic Asian favorites such as mandarin beef salad, Thai basic chicken chow fun, pad Thai, rice bowls and Mongolian beef (also available in chicken or shrimp). The restaurant is consistently busy with diners during the weekday lunch rush and diners take a seat in the spacious dining area that is softly lit with oversize rice paper lanterns. On weekends (starting on Thursday), Ma Jong’s remains open past last call making it a great place to eat a shrimp with lobster sauce rice bowl under the moonlight sky. Cindy Arora
