editorial profile:

If you’re a native Californian, it’s likely you’ll be yearning for a big burrito or juicy chicken taco some time soon. Mexican food is a staple of California’s—and certainly Sacramento’s—cuisine, and we’re lucky enough to have many restaurant choices in our region to satisfy our salsa-infused cravings. If you happen to be hankering for a plate of fajitas while driving down Alhambra Boulevard, put on the brakes and check out La Fiesta Taqueria, one of the busiest restaurants in East Sacramento. You know a place is good when it succeeds—like La Fiesta has—after a string of other restaurants have failed in the same location. If you can only choose one item, go for the fantastic crispy tacos, stuffed with the meat of your choice (try the carnitas and pollo asado), shredded lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream. Ridiculously juicy and messy (this is not a date-food item), the tacos will definitely scratch that Mexican food itch. Other delicious choices include the shrimp fajitas, the jumbo burritos (which can easily feed two people) and the flautas de pollo (fried chicken taquitos). La Fiesta also has some great breakfast options, which are available all day. There’s nothing like a huge plate of chorizo and eggs or huevos rancheros to get your day rolling right. — Kira O'Donnell

Insider tip: There’s often a line out the door at noon—if you want a quick lunch at La Fiesta, try to arrive by 11:45 a.m. at the latest.

Payment methods: No credit cards. Debit cards and cash only.

Alcohol: Beer only, no wine
