Located in a cavernous space on bustling G Street, KetMoRee restaurant serves up some of the tastiest Thai food in Davis. Unlike the smaller Thai restaurants in town, KetMoRee has a large bar area, and even offers its patrons a happy hour (3–6 p.m., Monday–Friday) with $3 well drinks and $4 munchies (including chicken pot stickers, chili calamari and mun tod—coconut battered, deep fried sweet potatoes with sweet and sour sauce). And while the student population may enjoy KetMoRee’s happy hour, the local business folks and university staff appreciate the restaurant’s spaciousness, attractive menu and very attentive waitstaff. There’s a beautiful, long wooden table situated at the very front of the restaurant that’s perfect for large parties—we’re told it’s a popular spot for office celebrations and birthdays. If you’re ready to perk up your palate, try the kitchen’s vivacious mango salad, tossed with cilantro, green onion, coconut flakes and cashew nuts; or the indulgent, creamy red curry with roasted duck and pineapple chunks. Specialties of this friendly restaurant include the pla rad prik, crispy-fried Petrale sole topped with sautéed chilis, bell pepper, mushrooms and green beans, and the briskly-selling gai yang, a marinated, grilled half chicken. There’s also a nice selection of soups , rice and noodle dishes—don’t miss the Thai spicy fried rice; and if you’re still hungry after your meal, order up one of KetMoRee’s fried bananas (with a scoop of coconut ice cream, of course). - Kira O'Donnell
