editorial profile:
A good dive bar will usually have a surly staff and an endless supply of peanuts that ultimately becomes dinner. Hangar 17 has a dive bar mentality, but forget the Chex mix and order a bone-in pork chop here while playing a heated game of darts. The bar on 16th and S streets is industrial looking with an aluminum awning, an outdoor patio and bistro-style tables inside. It has a slithering granite-topped bar illuminated with a red light that is led by bartenders who know how to use a cocktail shaker. The menu ranges from typical to eclectic with chicken wings to lumpia for appetizers, and sandwiches such as the Philly cheese sandwich made with prime rib or the Italian pocket sandwich. Entrees include an Asian skirt steak (marinated in sweet chili sauce), a number of pasta dishes and gourmet pizzas. There’s a lively Friday happy hour with specialty drinks such as the Swayze shot (Sky berry vodka and cranberry juice.) Or try the after dinner minitini. Cindy Arora
Insider tip: Video games, darts and a jukebox will keep you entertained.

" Went in with a group of about 8 at 1PM, mid-week. 4-6 lingering lunch crowd customers when we arrived. Had to move the cars parked in 1 hour spots before the food came. Food was fair, but came out 1 or 2 plates at a time. Customer service was horrible! Person acting as manager had a very poor attitude. "

" I live close to this restaurant and so have given it a number of chances. You can count on a number of things: 1) painfully slow service, 2)obnoxious, expletive filled banter between bar patrons and bartenders, and an excellent burger.
While the burgers have been consistently good, the chipotle chicken wrap was poor in just about every way. It was wrapped in a plain Safeway quality flour tortilla, stuffed with dry chicken, overly greased by two types of mayonnaise--regular mayonaise AND "chipotle" mayonnaise. The final kick in the teeth is that it was accompanied by greasey over-cooked french fries. Who wants fatty french fries with what's supposed to be a healthy entree?
Soda refills cost .25$. Cheap/petty. Doesn't it cost more than .25$ to track a .25$ refill?
The place looks nice and is inviting. Too bad not much else is. "
