Tucked away in an antique row in East Sacramento alongside storefronts selling wrought iron benches and distressed kitchen tables. This homey restaurant is decorated in mismatched furniture and knick-knacks to create a lived-in atmosphere. Although its menu includes traditional American and Californian fine-dining fare, family-theme rules from its children’s play area to the kids’ menu (that rivals the adults). Filet mignon topped with gravy, chicken Parmesan, apricot-glazed pork loin and a dish called the Toddler Graze (medley of small bites) come in children’s portions. For adults, lunch could be a tender sherry apricot chicken doused in sauce and served with wild rice, a classic French dip served with thick-cut fries or a light spinach and chicken salad. Meaty dinner options: prime rib, rack of lamb, filet mignon wrapped in bacon, or a wine merchant steak seasoned with balsamic vinegar, shallots and a Dijon mustard sauce.
