In the past Esquire Grill’s reservation book has read like a celebrity tabloid magazine with star-studded names such as Clint Eastwood, Sean Penn, Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger. But the fine-dining downtown restaurant takes its celebrity prowess in stride and focuses on food first and foremost. Steak and meats have a strong presence in the menu—you’ll find Niman Ranch pork chops and leg of lamb, grilled New York steaks and Angus beef burgers—but Esquire Grill also servers fresh fish, pastas, crab cakes and chicken. Handsome and masculine, Esquire has cushy booths that you can sink into, a stellar bar and a private Esquire room (a favorite of the Governor) that is stocked with chopped wood for the fireplace. It’s a plush place with service that makes you feel spoiled, pampered and, at times, like a celebrity in your own right. Cindy Arora

" Just had a really bad experience there July 08. I've been going for special occasions for years but my last experience (my husband's birthday) was ruined by bad service in all aspects. With reservations made well in advance we were given the worst booth - on a slow night with many good ones open, a very poor server, terrible appetizers. After 1.5 hours of waiting - still had no entrees and had to talk to the manager. The salad & soup we did get were really bad - warm spinach salad was cold & congealed - chowder oily with no seafood in it. We ended up leaving with no dinner - it ruined my husband's birthday. We won't ever go back. "
