Although it was a weekday afternoon, the trendy wine bar and restaurant Crush 29 bumped with Friday night energy. Hostesses with cocktail dresses and high-heels greeted newcomers and the circular bar was peppered with diners noshing on appetizers and drinking wine from oversized glasses. The Roseville restaurant is a trendsetter, with its open-kitchen facing the spaciously laid-out dining room in hues of cream, white and browns. Two side rooms beckon with roaring fireplaces and if you’re seeking a bit of privacy, Crush 29 has semi-private booths surrounded by round wood walls. Pairing foods with its wine selection plays a large part in the creation of the broad menu that ranges from California, American to eclectic.
Start with the ahi tuna spring rolls made with mango and water chestnuts blending sweet and savory into one light tasting dish. Move on to a Crush salad that comes tossed with caramelized apples and a sesame seed/banana chutney dressing. For dinner, opt for the Napa pasta that is topped with red grapes and shitake mushrooms. " I avoided Crush 29 for the first few months after it opened. It was too hyped for my taste and I was dubious the restaurant would live up to the promotion. Live and learn. I now go to Crush 29 as often as I can. Each experience has been fantastic. I have only one complaint: the place can get loud! On my last visit, I had to move my seat and come around the table to sit next to my wife, instead of across from her, because of the noise. Otherwise, we would not have been able to hear one another speak. However, the food and service were fantastic. Every course was a delight. The wine selection is remarkable. All of the prices are incredibly reasonable. The restaurant and bar can be crowded so make a reservation. A tip: the closer to the bar you sit the more loud the setting. If you want to be romantic, ask for table away from the bar. Plus, ask for Tracy (formerly of Cafe Bernardo) to serve you. She is wonderful. "

" The wine and alcohol is great. But the food is over rated. My husband I went in for dinner and although the appitizers were good our meals were bad, bland, and not worth the money.
We never went back. "
