We all need a touch of comfort now and then, and what better way to get it than by devouring a hot, plate-sized crepe, stuffed full of your favorite goodies? Sacramento is home to several fine creperies, including East Sacramento’s visually exciting Crepe Escape, located on busy H Street. This bustling establishment has any crepe your heart might desire, from the delicious “Athena” (cheddar and feta cheeses, artichokes, black olives, tomatoes, spinach) served with a wonderfully refreshing and tangy mint-flecked yogurt to the indulgent, whipped cream-topped apple crepe, filled with sautéed Granny Smith apples brightened with cinnamon and brown sugar. The fun doesn’t stop with crepes, however. Tuck into the kitchen’s bulky and colorful Mexican salad, tossed with an earthy cumin vinaigrette; or the fragrant spaghetti Bolognese, whose portion is large enough to sate two hungry diners. There’s a fine kids’ menu, including a peanut butter and jelly bagel and chicken nuggets, and Crepe Escape offers breakfast daily—don’t miss the crab cake Florentine, two crusty crab cakes piled on toasted English muffins with sautéed spinach and poached eggs, drenched with Hollandaise sauce. Admire the walls as you wait for your meal—some are covered with fanciful painted cloudscapes, and a back wall depicts a California hillside with grapevines, trees and a beautiful blue lake. There are even sculpted trees “growing” out of the walls, with whimsical branches poking out into the dining space. This is an enjoyable escape for mind and palate. — Kira O'Donnell
