editorial profile:

The yellow hued building that is Celestin’s doesn't prepare you for the onslaught of pink, turquoise and yellow colors that make-up the inside of this Caribbean–inspired restaurant. White ceiling fans move slowly and an adjacent lounge bar with deep red walls makes for a sultry counterpart. This midtown restaurant has been ladling bowls of its popular Creole and Cajun gumbo to regulars since it opened 25 years ago. The menu carries tostones—crispy fried pressed slices of plantains— a light and flavorful tomato and avocado salad, Jamaican jerk burger with sweet potato fries and its signature gumbo flavored with dark roux and served with everything from seafood to kielbasa. Sample a glass of sangria while listening to the eclectic music collection compiled by the owner’s son. Cindy Arora

" Went with a friend on a Sunday night...so it was not very busy. We took our seat, waited for awhile for menus, waited for awhile to have our order taken.....you get the hint....the service from our waiter was so bad that we started to ask other people who worked there for help....Food was good but the service was poor.
