editorial profile:

Café Bernardo is in so many ways the local neighborhood greasy spoon—minus the aging décor and ornery servers. But what sets this nook apart is a revolving menu that pulls together seasonal and local produce to create its dishes. Open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Café Bernardo is a polished diner best known for its lingering weekend brunches and brisk workweek lunch crowd. For lunch, try the salad sampler—three salad choices—and the salmon BLT. If breakfast is your favorite meal order the eggs Bernardo, served with two poached eggs and a housemade hollandaise or the malted Belgian waffle served with toasted pecan butter and pure maple syrup. Servers are friendly and understanding on a Sunday morning and typically keep the coffee and Bloody Mary refills coming. Cindy Arora

Insider tip: The Midtown location also is the Monkey Bar where locals have access to a full-bar and 12 beers on tap.

Payment Methods: Amex, ATM, Cash, MasterCard, Visa

" Cafe Bernardo has managed to do the nearly impossible: serve delicious, inventive food at reasonable prices. Everything is fresh, in-season and delicious. Try their turkey sandwich or Thai noodle salad—you won't be disappointed. If it's busy, be prepared to wait for your food longer than you may expect. The service can be a bit slow, but it's worth the wait. "
