No time to cook healthful meals? No worries. Delivery services do more than pizza and Chinese these days. Here are two local companies that’ll bring nutritious meals directly to your door.
A Healthy Kitchen
Like the idea of opening your freezer and finding coconut chicken curry with sautéed cumin spinach and brown basmati rice—all made with local, organic ingredients? Through their company, A Healthy Kitchen, personal chefs Terese Hollander Esperas and Dionisio Esperas deliver healthful freezer meals. Prices start at $20, with a minimum order of 10 meals per month. Fresh meals are also an option, but at a price: Four meals for one person, with delivery twice a week, run $200 a week, plus groceries. Sounds steep, but as Hollander Esperas points out, “You’re hiring a private chef, someone who is going to be committed to you and will prepare whatever you want—very specialized and personalized.” Vegetarian and gluten-free meals are among the offerings. ahealthykitchensac.com (916) 739-0659
Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa
You don’t have to be a member of this upscale resort to partake in its Wellness Meal Plans delivery service. Arden Hills’ emphasis is on nutrient-rich, low-calorie meals, made with locally grown foods from sustainable farms and ranches and prepared by an on-site culinary team. “Proper nutrition is the foundation of our wellness philosophy,” says spokeswoman Courtney Kain. Some customer favorites, according to Kain: breakfast burrito with black beans and avocado, cilantro-lime chicken sandwich on ciabatta bread and pumpkin-seed encrusted halibut. Prices are $6 for breakfast or dessert, $8 for lunch and $12 for dinner, and there are discounts for advance orders. You can create your own meal plan or work with an on-site nutritionist, and all meals are delivered fresh (not frozen). ardenhills-wellness.com (916) 482-6111
