Pop-Up! A Private Collection of 3D Children's Books
Nov 19, 2013 to Dec 29, 2013
11:30 am until 5:00 pm
This event occurs weekly on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Pop-up books, with their lively and graphic three-dimensional images, have long been a popular art form since the mid-19th century. Numerous examples of this unique book art form will be on display in this special exhibit on a loan from the collection of Dr. Maria Winkler, Professor of Art Emeritus, CSU Sacramento. Including themes based on the Winter holidays, such as Kwanzaa, Chanukah, and Christmas, the exhibit will also include spectacular 3D cards and games spanning two centuries that showcase the complicated paper engineering and printing that characterizes pop-up art.
December 15, 2-3 PM (FREE)
Artist and collector Maria Winkler will share her unique pop-up books, games, and more moveable items, and discuss the history of this amazing 3D art form. Best yet, after her talk, many out-of-print books from her collection will be for sale, to benefit the Pence!
