SCREEN PRINTS 1970, The Art Institute of Chicago
From the C.N. Gorman Museum Collections, the exhibition features works by 74 artists who were affiliated with the Printmaking Department of the School of the Art Institute, later known as The Art Institute of Chicago. Organized in 1970 by Sonia Landy Sheridan, the portfolio was created by faculty, graduate students and alumni “in an attempt to establish a working relationship between the artist, education and industry.” The works provide a glimpse into the social and political context of 1970, as well as evidence the ways in which printmaking creates spaces for sharing among colleagues, communities, and discourses.
