Viewpoint Photographic Art Center presents its annual Photography Auction Fundraiser and Exhibition from April 9 to May 3. Prints from local, regional, national, and international photographers will be exhibited, bid on, and sold in this year’s auction fundraiser. This year Viewpoint celebrates its 22nd anniversary as a thriving nonprofit arts organization dedicated to the creation, promotion, and exhibition of the photographic arts. Viewpoint's successes include:
Being the only independent, self-supporting, and exclusively photographic arts organization in the greater Sacramento region, with more than 500 members and 2 galleries. Viewpoint presents more than 20 exhibits a year, showcasing established and emerging regional, national, and international photographic artists that represent a broad range of styles and techniques.
A host of programs, workshops, field trips, and other activities that support Viewpoint’s mission of fostering the regional photographic art community while educating the broader community about what is arguably the most prominent art form of our time.
An active student program that nurtures and encourages young students of photography by offering special free student-only events designed to cultivate budding photographers and to supplement impacted high school and college arts programs.
The annual Photographic Art Auction remains the centerpiece of Viewpoint’s fundraising efforts, enabling Viewpoint to continue to build its outreach, education, and exhibit programs. Prominent photographic artists whose work is included in this year’s auction include Ruth Bernhard, Howard Bond, Phil Borges, Lawrie Brown, Brigitte Carnochan, Kathleen Carr, Mark Citret, Steve Dzerigian, Charles Farmer, Linda Fitch, Annette Fournet, Richard Garrod, Joan Gentry, Stephen Johnson, Kate Jordahl, Lewis Kemper, Don Kirby, Stu Levy, Tom Millea, Margaretta Mitchell, Richard Murai, Nick Pavloff, Dianne Poinski, Ron Rosenstock, Merg Ross, Dominic Rouse, Bill Schwab, Lou Stoumen, Jerry Takigawa, Brett Thomas, John Wimberley, and many more.
All auction prints will be available for viewing online at www.viewpointgallery.org and on Viewpoint’s gallery walls from April 9 through May 2. The live fundraiser takes place on Saturday, May 3 at Viewpoint, beginning with a 5:30 reception and registration period. The premier event, a Live Auction of 36 specially-chosen works of art, starts at 6:00 p.m. and ends around 9:00 p.m. The Live Auction is always highly entertaining as well as informative. In addition to the Live Auction, the fundraising event includes two other entertaining ways for photography lovers to acquire high-quality works of art.
During the exhibit, over 50 fine art photographic prints will be included in a Silent Auction featuring online bidding. A bid equaling a print’s retail price will immediately win the auction. Silent Auction prints not won for the retail price during the exhibit period will be auctioned to the highest bidder during the live event on May 3. In addition to the Live Auction and the Silent Auction, there will be 32 prints included in a Print Drawing, an exciting event which as been a popular part of Viewpoint fundraising auctions for many years. Prints in the Drawing have a retail value of $150 or more, and just 32 drawing tickets will be sold for $75 each, guaranteeing that every ticket purchaser will win a print. A random drawing at the live event will determine the order in which the ticket holders get to select from the pool of drawing prints.
Sponsors of the 2014 Viewpoint Photographic Art Auction include Full Touch Media, Cox Black-and-White Lab, and Frank Fat’s Asian Bistro.
