Not only are we surrounded by dizzying agricultural splendor, we have, in our very midst, a number of talented culinary artisans supplying us with delicious, locally handcrafted foodstuffs. Daniel Turkovich is one such artisan. Scion of a long-established farming family in Winters, Turkovich is an accomplished cheesemaker, offering his diverse products at the Winters Cheese Company. This friendly, family-owned shop is located in a beautiful, sun-flooded historic building on Main Street, and shares space with the Turkovich Family Wines tasting room (brother Christopher Turkovich is the winemaker).
Daniel’s cheeses include a sharply frisky, full-flavored Caerphilly, an elegant smoked Gouda and an intriguing tomato and basil Cheddar—the perfect cheese to liven up a freshly grilled burger or homemade pizza. You can sample the cheeses alongside Turkovich wines every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
