5644 J St.
This cheery little eatery is spare and simple, with beige tables, plain wooden chairs and cheerily upholstered booths, but the food is packed with lots of flavor. Try the falafel, a crusty, deep-fried ball of crushed garbanzo beans, fresh parsley and spices, stuffed in thick pita bread and drenched in tahini. The hefty garlic chicken pita sandwich is another winner, and the vibrant tabouli will make your palate hum with happiness. Kids adore the creamy macaroni and cheese.
