Looking for a gift for the foodie on your holiday list? Just in time, Zagat’s back.
Zagat Survey released its first and only Sacramento restaurant guide in 2009, with journalist Kate Washington serving as local editor. Then, for a couple of years, it seemed Zagat had zigzagged out of town, with no new local guides in sight.
But with the recent release of Zagat’s 2012 America’s Top Restaurants—which includes 45 major markets, including the Sacramento region—food lovers have a new and updated guide to local places to nosh.
The top-rated restaurants for food in our region:
1. Taste (Plymouth)
2. Ambience (Carmichael)
3. Mulvaney’s Building & Loan (Sacramento)
4. The Kitchen (Sacramento)
5. Sunflower Drive-In (Fair Oaks)
Mark Berkner, chef/owner of Taste, says being No. 1 “is very flattering. We put a lot of thought into our menu items, and everybody here works hard. It’s very collaborative. This is an accolade for the whole team.”
Washington again served as Sacramento-area editor, providing content for the 2012 book. She also contributed to the updated Sacramento reviews on the Zagat website, zagat.com.
Priced at $15.95, 2012 America’s Top Restaurants is available in bookstores and via the Zagat Store online at zagat.com/shop. But that’s just the old-school version: Zagat also has jumped into the digital world big time, with smartphone apps, a mobile website, e-books and more.
