SACRAMENTO PRIDE FESTIVAL 2014
By Diana Bizjak
Our culture has come incredibly far in accepting and embracing people of all gender and sexual identities. Of course, there is still a long way to go. This year's Pride Festival will celebrate all the work that’s been accomplished, and will encourage people to push even farther in supporting the safety, dignity and acceptance of our LGBT community. This family-friendly parade and party, held at the Capital Mall Greens, will be bringing amazing entertainment and fun to downtown Sacramento from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 14. Festival attendees will dance it out at the Dance Pavilion, which will be pumping out the hottest pop, country, Latin and club hits. The main stage will feature star performers from across the country, including Neon Hitch, Mayhem Miller and Raven from season two of “RuPaul's Drag Race.” In the Kids Zone, children and their families can enjoy a bounce house, face painting, fun games, a prize wheel and more, while those more culturally inclined can visit the Art Zone, where local artists will be selling their wares and aspiring artists can create art of their own. Bringing it all together are the vendors, selling food, drinks, crafts, clothing, art, books and more. And for those who love tradition, there's the Pride Parade, a classic component of the pride event stemming from the earliest gay pride movements. Starting at 11, the parade is open to anyone who wants to show their love and support for the LGBT community. For more information, see here.
