Holi, an ancient Hindu spring festival, is undoubtedly one of India's most beautiful and beloved exports. Called the festival of colors or the festival of love in other parts of the world, Holi is now observed by Hindus and non-Hindus alike as a means to express joy, gratitude and community. On Saturday, June 14, Sacramentans can experience Holi for themselves at the Color Festival, a modern interpretation of these treasured Hindu customs. At the festival, children, adults and the elderly alike can run, dance, and play in a swirl of bright colors and festive music. Dyed powders rain down on all those celebrating, covering everyone in a rainbow of color and filling the air with a fine pink mist. The Color Festival also invites guests to enjoy the live music, dancers, yoga instructors and locally sourced vegetarian cuisine. Dancing in a rain of color to music and the sounds of laughter, you'll have no trouble allowing your stresses to float away. Let your inner child out at this dreamy, technicolor festival.
