It’s not every day that the composer who penned some of music’s most memorable melodies—“Walk on By,” “I Say a Little Prayer,” “What the World Needs Now is Love” and “Alfie,” to name a few—comes to the Sacramento region. But on Jan. 25, the legendary Burt Bacharach, who wrote all those songs and countless more, will bring his 10-piece band and three singers (Burt will occasionally sing, too) to Cache Creek for a rare appearance. At 85, the Grammy and Oscar-winning composer/arranger/conductor/pianist is in a remarkably prolific period, working on new musicals and releasing an autobiography (“Anyone Who Had a Heart”) last year alongside launching a tour, which he has jokingly referred to as his “You Gotta Be Kidding” tour—probably because it’s a surprise even to him that he’s still on the road at this time of his life. For Bacharach fans—and who isn’t?—this is one show not to be missed.
For Sacramento magazine’s recent interview with Bacharach, turn to page 107 of the January 2014 issue. Bacharach’s website is bacharachonline.com, and you can get tickets and information about his Cache Creek concert at cachecreek.com.
