You don't have to be decked out in studded leather and squatting in a run-down flat to know who Black Flag is. After the Sex Pistols, Black Flag is probably the most well known band to come out of the punk scene of the ’70s and ’80s. Formed in 1976 in Hermosa Beach, Black Flag has undergone numerous lineup changes, with the four-member band having seen 23 different individual members (including Henry Rollins) over the course of its history. Their music is the definitive hardcore, West Coast punk sound, with neurotic guitar solos and challenging tempo shifts matched up with anti-authoritarian lyrics. Thanks to a devotion to the DIY aesthetic, the band has never lost its authenticity in the eyes of most punk fans, and remains extremely popular among punk devotees to this day. They are making a stop by Ace of Spades on Friday, May 30, and it is sure to be a spectacle. Expect many, many tattoos of the band's logo, four parallel black bars, on audience members, and a riotous good show.
