Anyone who loves swingin’ jazz and, in particular, the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald should mark their calendars for Wednesday, Feb. 26, when the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra—called the “best jazz repertory band in the country” by the New Yorker—and Grammy Award-winning vocalist Kim Nazarian perform a tribute to the late, great singer at Harris Center. It won’t just be your garden variety repertoire, either: The focus will be on seldom-played arrangements written for Ella in the ’40s and ’50s by such smokin’ hot arrangers as Count Basie, Billy May, Benny Carter and Billy Strayhorn. It should be a rare treat for anyone who appreciates tasteful tunes from another time—and just great music, period.
