If you've lived in Sacramento long enough, you've probably become inured to the major holiday fireworks displays. But if you are completely writing off the big fireworks shows in town, you are making a mistake. As convenient as it is to set off a couple Piccolo Petes in the driveway and call it a night, it really is better to find a good vantage point for the dazzling explosions set off from Cal Expo and Raley Field. And again, while it may seem most convenient to just pick a spot on the levee to watch the displays, if you want to really do it right, you've got to put in a little effort and go straight to the source. Raley Field is opening their doors to patriotic revelers this Independence Day for their 2nd annual Fourth on the Field celebration. Partiers will pack together on the baseball diamond and enjoy live music, local food trucks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, interactive games on the field, a kids area with games, and inflatables for all ages, with the evening reaching its peak during the spectacular fireworks sky show. While this is a big event, it's still got a down-home feel—it's essentially an overgrown block party. Guests can bring blankets, plop down on the greens, enjoy the laid-back atmosphere, and scope out the city's best view of the fireworks. For more information, see here.
