Sacramento Greek Festival

Posted on August 27

Heavy on the baklava, ouzo and “opas!,” Sacramento’s Greek Festival, held every Labor Day weekend, is always a big, lively party. But this year, its 50th, promises to be one for the history books. In addition to the usual suspects—fabulous food, live music and dancing, and a “plaka” (shopping mart) selling Greek clothing and art—there will be special appearances by such local celebs as artist Gregory Kondos and wine author/expert Rick Kushman. And here’s something not to be missed: Chef Patrick Mulvaney will compete in a cooking throwdown against Sacramento’s top YiaYias (Greek grandmas).

What: Sacramento Greek Festival
When: Friday, Aug. 30–Sunday, Sept. 1
Where: Sacramento Convention Center, 1400 J St., Sacramento
Cost: $5 general; free on Aug. 30 from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. and free for children under 12
