With their rich, full sound and often humorous, playful approach to performing, the Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus—at least the two times I’ve seen them—always put on a fun, musically dynamic show. For their holiday offering Dec. 6–10 at First United Methodist Church in Sacramento, the chorus—backed by the Big Band beat of the Harley White Jr. Orchestra—will present a mix of traditional holiday tunes and oddball selections such as “Black Christmas” and “Christmas in the Cloister.” If past performances are any indicator, “Cool Yule” should be both entertaining and deeply moving, not to mention a great way to celebrate the holiday season while supporting local arts.
